MIKE MECKES - General Manager/COO

General Manager/COO  

Mike joined the staff at Wetherington in March 2017.  He was previously the General Manager at Brown’s Run Country Club and worked at Clovernook CC and Kenwood CC also.  He was born and raised in Cincinnati and has remained there his entire life.  His club experience began at Kenwood in 1976 at the age of 17 and has stayed in the private club sector ever since. He even caddied at Kenwood CC and Crest Hills CC dating back to 1970!  Mike’s employment at Kenwood evolved over 10 years until the General Manager groomed him to manage his own club at the age of 27.   While he attended the University of Cincinnati, he realized he had a passion for the private club industry.  He then transferred to Cincinnati State Technical Community College getting a degree in Hotel, Motel and Restaurant Management.  His tenure at Brown’s Run lasted 10 years before being recruited by Clovernook where he spent 17 years.  After Clovernook he went back to Brown’s Run until Wetherington brought him aboard.

Mike was an avid golfer and won the Eastern Hills League Championship his junior year at Terrace Park Country Club.  His golfing days are over, but he wants to get back in the game when he finds the time.  He is married to his wife Laurie and have two children Lexi and Ryan.  Laurie is a registered nurse at Liberty Children’s Medical Center and she has worked for Children’s for over 20 years.  His daughter Lexi attends Ohio University and Ryan attends the University of Cincinnati.  They call Montgomery home, where they have resided since 1997.

Mike feels privileged and honored to call Wetherington his Club and the best club he has been a part of in his career!

JASON ROSE - Director of Sales and Marketing, Membership Director

Jason, a native of Archbold Ohio, holds a Bachelor’s degree from Ohio Northern University in Sports Management, where he also played basketball, and a Master’s degree from Bowling Green State University in Sports Administration.  In 2008 he found his passion for sales while being an Inside Sales Representative with the Florida Marlins and later an Account Executive with the Miami Heat.  A relocation to the north landed him with the Detroit Red Wings and more responsibilities as an Account Sales & Services Executive.  After one more move back to Florida, this time the Panhandle in Destin, Jason’s love of sports propelled him into the golf world where he worked in various golf shop and golf course positions. His most recent move to the Greater Cincinnati area, to facilitate his wife’s job at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, sent him searching for another position that would combine his love of golf along with his sales expertise.  After working as the Clubhouse Manager & Assistant Golf Professional at Greentree Golf Club upon arriving in the Cincy/Dayton area, he then became the newest member of our management team in December of 2015.

Jason currently resides in Franklin with his wife Amanda and their two children – Xander, age 5 and Sullivan, age 4.  He enjoys spending time at his family’s Indiana lake house with his family and dog, playing sports of any kind, especially golf, and supporting his favorite sports franchises.

DAVE TIEMAN, PGA - Interim Head Golf Professional

Dave has been in the golf industry for his entire life beginning in early 70’s.  He has held the title of Head Golf Professional for the 35+ years.  His career path began at Crest Hills in 1981, in 1984 he was hired as Head Professional for the Hamilton County Park district, he left the HCPD to oversee the 36 hole Weatherwax Golf Course for over 20 years and spent the last 3 years at Brown’s Run Country Club.  Dave also works with Titleist as a product specialist and club fitter over the last 5 years.  His professionalism, experience and familiarity with Our Club is a perfect fit for all involved.  Dave and his wife Michelle live in Wetherington near the 8th green.  

TIM KELLEY - Grounds Superintendent

Tim Kelley has been a member of the Wetherington team since the spring of 1992.  Upon graduation from Ohio State University, with a Bachelors Degree in Agronomy, Tim was hired as the Golf Course Superintendent.  He was responsible for the grow in phase of course development and has continued to help the course evolve into the prestigious facility it is today.

Tim's previous experience and opportunities have given him the knowledge necessary to make Wetherington one of the top courses in the Cincinnati area.  He has had the privelege of working at two top ten courses in the country.  While attending college, Tim had the chance to gain valuable knowledge while working at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.  Also, in 1990, he completed an internship at Medinah Country Club located near Chicago, Illinois.  This opportunity afforded him the chance to work during the 1990 U.S. Open helping with course set up and overall course conditioning.  In 1996, Tim was honored with the Ohio State Young Alumni of the Year Award from the College of Agriculture for his help with educating at-risk students on golf course operations and employability skills.

Tim currently resides in Liberty Township with his wife and family.

KHALID MAFAZY - Executive Chef

Executive Chef

Khalid Mafazy is an American Culinary Association Certified Executive Chef and has been the executive chef at Wetherington Golf and Country Club since 2003. He served as executive chef at Kanawha Country Club in Charleston, West Virginia prior to joining the team at Wetherington.

He was named "Chef of the Year" in 2011 by the Cincinnati chapter of the American Culinary Federation (ACF) for outstanding contributions to the ACF's culinary education outreach programs, having dedicated many hours promoting the development of the local culinary profession and leading scholarship fundraising efforts to benefit aspiring future chefs. Previously, he was named "Chef of the Year" by the ACF in Charleston, West Virginia, recognized for mentoring local culinary students to compete nationally in culinary team competitions.

Originally from Kenya, Khalid received training in international cuisines and operated a restaurant on Kenya's beautiful Indian Ocean coast. It was there that he developed an appreciation for the pleasure of bringing people together with good food. It was also there that he met his wife, Terri who was studying abroad in Kenya. They live in West Chester and are the proud parents of Luke, a director with Anheuser-Busch in Belgium, and Raya, a figure skating coach in Oakwood, OH. The latest addition to the family is their adored granddaughter, Colette.

ASHLEY LUETH - Director of Events

Director of Events

Ashley Lueth formally Ashley Greene has been with us since 2013. She is originally from a small town in northwestern Ohio. After graduation, she moved south and studied Hospitality Management at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort. In 2007, Ashley took a position as the Event Coordinator for the Funny Bone Comedy Club in Dayton. A few years later, she decided to move back south to accept a position as the Event Manager for the Greenville Drive- a Minor League Baseball Team, affiliate of the Boston Red Sox's. She handled all special events in the stadium, including fundraisers, private team events, 5K runs, launch parties, and many other large events. In 2010, Ashley decided to move back to Ohio and returned to the Funny Bone Comedy Club and was promoted as the Event Coordinator for both Dayton & Cincinnati Clubs.

Ashley currently resides in West Chester with her husband Adam and their 13 year old Yorkie, Oliver Greene! 

TIM WHELAN - Controller


Tim Whelan joined Wetherington Golf & Country Club as our Controller in 2008. He originally is from Ft. Thomas, Kentucky and attended St. Xavier High School and Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated with a BSBA in Accounting in 1986. Tim was also a member of the Xavier University Baseball Team.  After graduation, he worked for in public accounting for Bressler & Company in Covington, Ky.

Tim also has over 25 years experience in the food and beverage/hospitality industry. From 1989-1990, he was Assistant Controller for the Comisar Maisonette Restaurant Group. From 1991-2003, he was Controller for the Company. In 2004, Tim was Practice Manager for Guenthner Physical Therapy before moving to Western Hills Country Club as Controller in 2005.   

Tim currently resides in Milford. Tim has two daughters and one son. Tim has been an active member of St. Martin Parish and served on the Finance Committee for the Parish for 6 years. He also served on the Tax Board of Review for the City of Cheviot for many years.
